Owlet Baby Monitor
As
many parents know there is a lot of technology out there when it comes to your
baby. I’m sure most have heard about the Owlet as well. I personally received
the owlet as a gift and allowed my sister to use it until my new little one is
here. She used it with her son who was born premature and born at 29 weeks. So
we wanted to be able to monitor him to make sure he was doing well. This little
device gave them peace of mind knowing he was sleeping well throughout the
night. They were able to proactively monitor his heart rate and his oxygen
level which was two of the main things they worried about. The device is a
little pricy however, you do get socks in different sizes so as your baby grows
it can grow with them, you get the monitor that goes in the sock and you get
the base station that tracks their vitals. The sock fits babies up to 18 months
old as well. Some may wonder if the sock is washable and it is safe to
say that it IS indeed washable.
You
must remember to remove the electronic device though as it will damage it if
you leave it within the sock. Some individuals will have the question of “can I
use this if I don’t have a smartphone” the answer to that question is YES! The
base is the primary alert system so there is no need to have a smartphone. However,
without using a smartphone you will not be able to monitor the live vitals –
the base station is designed to alert you if your baby stops breathing though.
Hospitals have even taken advantage of the Owlets smart sock hospital
technology called pulse oximetry, miniaturized into a snuggly smart sock that
your baby wears at night – it has helped monitor the babies in the hospital
such as the NICU. The owlet has been proven through their technology by over
100,000 hours of testing and 100 billion heartbeats have been monitored.
